Prototype – Franzel Pena

Thanks to the generosity of the Bergami Family and the UNH Division of Student Affairs, eight UNH undergraduate students received a stipend to cover expenses related to their unpaid internship experience.  The eight recipients will be reflecting on their internship experience over the course of the summer. This entry is from Franzel Pena, Computer Engineering  Major, who is interning with Anchor Science LLC .

I have chosen to intern at Anchor Science LLC since it focuses on aspects that relate to my career path such as prototyping devices and methods to solve biomedical challenges.  Prototyping requires intensive background research, thus studying and analyzing scientific research data is important in order to develop solutions.  Moreover, one is not limited to follow a pattern in order to create a solution, instead free and innovative thinking is a key factor.  This allows for knowledge and experience from my academic studies to be used whether it is to validate a known behavior from a system or deriving mathematical equations from said system.   This environment perfectly fits my career goals since my area of study, Computer Engineering, is based in the prototyping and programming of computational systems.  I am also extremely interested in nanotechnology, tracking the status of large systems by the usage of biosensors and processing their signals in order to understand more information about the system.  This internship will help me obtain knowledge and experience regarding the implementation of electric circuits with bio components, signal processing of systems, and develop knowledge in programming languages widely used in the biomedical field.

There are interns from different fields of study that work at Anchor Science LLC.  We combine our knowledge and experience from the different fields in order to reinforce our hypotheses and deliver quality solutions to biomedical challenges.  This collaborative environment is extremely beneficial to engineers, since it supports one of our most critical skills, which is teamwork.  I am expecting to expand on this skill while learning concepts from different fields of studies.  Another experience that I am looking forward to have is product showcasing.  Once a product has been successfully designed and tested, I am hoping display our products effetely to engage other companies and potential clients.  This way, not only Anchor Science LLC will offer practical work experience in my area of study but also provide a view and experience to the business side of companies.  I am happy with my decision and glad to have the opportunity to be an Anchor Science LLC intern.
